Introduction:

In the sixth annual vertical competition, the School of Architecture will challenge students to explore an exciting topic of the New Interfaces for Musical Expression. Inspired by the annual international conference, AAU NIME is dedicated to art/scientific research on the development of design creativity for musical expression and artistic performance.

Objective:

(1) To encourage students from 1 st to 4 th year to fresh up and start their studio design in the second semester, gathering all students in the school to work and compete together.

(2) To challenge creativity, innovation, freedom in design.

(3) To promote the student work to the public and to practice their design and presentation skills.

Program:

This program focuses on designing New Interfaces for Musical Expression. The primary goal of this year competition is to encourage students to use their knowledge about design creativities with the relationship of the human body, interactivity, existing objects/technologies, and the aural environment to create the New Interfaces for Musical Expression. Student is asked to design a physical instrument for his/her performance. Basically, the gear must enable to play--making pleasant sounds for the audience.

Method:

-Students can submit their work individually or as a group of two or three people.

-Work will be presented to the studio instructors and graded as a part of one of the studio assignments (10%).

-The selected works will be nominated to the final performance.

-Nominees present and perform their design to the committee on Nov.   07, 2006 at Dr.Choop Plaza 1.00 PM.   The winners of prizes will be announced on the same day.

Requirement:

- Model @ 1:1
- Presentation Board (Size A3)

Materials:

Any materials can be used for making NIME.

Due Date:

- Nov. 06, 2006 (on studio time)
- Work submitted on the next day will not be accepted and graded.

Awards:

First Prize Design Award                                           10,000 THB.
Second Prize Design Award                                        5,000 THB.
Third Prize Design Award                                             3,000 THB.
